    Puma aircon possible issue?

My new Defender was almost faultless on my 3500km round trip towing the caravan, but coming home the aircon was not as cold as it was. Before it was almost too cold it would freeze your left arm, but the last 300km it was cool but not cold. Could it have frozen up (if so I suppose it will work in the morning..). Has anyone else had aircon issues?

There was a recall out for them wherin the sensor gets wrong reading and causes it to freeze over.

My 2011 model Defender had the air con sensor replaced under warranty (as described above)... with very similar symptoms to what you've described. I do know it wasn't a small job as they had to pull the dash out to get to the part.. they had the car for nearly two weeks. (I had a courtesy car so it wasn't all bad).

It sounds like this is going to be a real pain. The dealer is a long way from me, I will see if it is working again today..
    Thanks

it will work again if its had time to melt.

if you run it with the temp not too high it wont freeze as bad.

you could wait until next service or make the trip out. not sure how long mine took but the dealer had my car for a week as I had some other stuff looked at

If I can make it work so I can use it getting it does at the service sounds like a plan. I will try it when I go out in a bit.

Chris, don't run the switch all the way to the right,it could be the thermistor switch, the drain is blocked or the cable spirals have tightened up because it's new putting the adjustment out.The sensor was a major problem,I think all of us have had one changed at one point or another, you can easily tell buy looking up under the dash and seeing if the evaporator is frozen solid or not, mine also blocked the drain when I was caught in a flood and the dash switch needed a 1/4 to get back to working OK. I had mine replaced under warranty recently.
The dash has to come out and go back in. My dealer told me they wouldn't (or couldn't) order the spare part until the dash came out. Apparently one of the faults is the anti freeze sensor simply comes off the evaporator core and the other problem is that it fails and has to be replaced, I had the feeling that my left ear was filling up with liquid though.
Either way in my case , two days of running the car in the yard with the aircon on just to believe me, best part of a day to get the dash out, two days to get the part from wherever and a day to get it back together.
Happy with the result though as in the end, when mine froze up I would actually get hot air out of the vents.

    Thanks Guys,
I have not used the car today as I am using my heap as I am painting a rental house, but I will check over the weekend. It sounds like a real pain in the butt.. I hope I can make it work ok until the next service.
    Cheers

As pat303 said, most of us have had the thermister replaced sometime. Mine had one at 18k km yep eighteen!!!! Now at 55k I think it's due again, & we drive these things?!! Has anybody worked out how to fit one in an accessible place or worked out if it's poss. to cut the side out of the underdash area where the thermister is then silicon the piece back in? I've done it on another car to replace the heater core & after the console carpet was replaced nobody knew the difference except the owner of the car who only had to fork out 2 hrs. labour not 10. I'd like to see the underdash area to see if this was possible. Ian
