    County Brakes

    Hi,
My pedal goes near to the floor in spite of a new master cylinder, (brakes bled in correct sequence), and well adjusted (I think) rear drums. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Most likely the rear brake adjustment, but you can check this by clamping off the flexible line to the rear brakes. If this fixes the pedal, you need to take a good look at the rear brakes - take the drums off and check that there are no evident problems such as badly worn linings or drums, and that the adjusters are not worn so they don't stay put.

If clamping the rear brake line does not fix the problem, it is most likely a problem with the adjustment of the pushrod from the pedal to the booster or from it to the m/c.

While it is just possible that the problem is air remaining in the system somewhere, this system is not usually regarded as difficult to bleed. A faulty master cylinder that is not operating one of the circuits (front or rear) is possible, but in my view, very unlikely.

    County Brake Pedal Adjustment

    Finally, the fix.

I adjusted, and readjusted the rear brakes but the pedal was like Coles prices, down and staying down!

I removed the two nuts holding the new master cylinder in place and pushed the master cylinder aside to reveal the rod that pushes against the master cylinder. IT was adjustable. I screwed it out 5mm and what a difference that made.

My pedal has always been a bit low but the new master cylinder must have been slightly different to the original letting the pedal sink further.
