    Another hose?

So last night my Puma had another event, and it sounds very much like a blown pressure hose again.

After the intercooler on a 2.2 Puma, there is a longish hose, which joins to the hard pipe. What is after the pipe? Is there another hose that goes up under the manifold? I can't really see in there, but everything before it is fine, so I'm guessing there is another hose there that can't handle the new BAS tune...

If there is a hose there, does anyone know if there is a silicone replacement available?

    Thanks!

How do you change that elbow shaped hose. I’ve got the replacement but it seems buried.

Yeah can't help you with that one unfortunately! I did the easy 2 and then left that 3rd, tiny, buried one in the too hard basket.
Got the mechanic to do it next time it was booked in for some work!
I think he drained the coolant to be able to pull all the hoses out of the way in order to fit it.

It can be done, but be prepared to lose skin.
Easiest way I found is to remove the top hose and metal pipe, as well as any other easy to remove hoses (top rad hose etc) to create some space. Then you can squeeze your arm down and around to remove the small hose. If the hose clamp bolt is facing up, use an extra long flathead screwdriver to undo the clamp. If it's poorly orientated, it can be a nightmare. The clamps should be set into the hose.
Before replacing anything attach the small hose to the metal pipe first and tighten in the correct orientation. This makes it easier to feed down to the correct spot and use the metal pipe as a lever to push the small hose back on to the manifold.

I couldn't get a silicon replacement for this hose. Only the two long ones are available as far as I know.

    Cheers

Nothing to do with the tune, they will fail as do all intercooler hoses on turbo diesels (it's the ingress of oil).
The only notable exception is Jeeps as most have silicone hoses as standard, but that would not sway me to buy a Jeep.

To get to the elbow on the 2.2 you disconnect numerous hoses and bits and pieces to gain access, its awkward but not impossible.

    Done it!

Landy lover was on the money. Removed the metal pipe upstream from elbow and came off easily. New silicon elbow went on with one or two words of encouragement. Truly, a bastard of a job. I really hope as their all silicon they last a loooong time. Removing the metal pipe also meant water hoses remained in situ(no loss of coolant).

As said above it can be done at home by removing some of the radiator plumbing to make access easier.I walked away from it at one stage because it was all getting too hard but next morning everything became easy
it seemed to me that there maybe some rubbing between the 90’ hose and the bolt on the engine mount beneath it, the tear in the hose was at this point, I cut half an inch off the big end of the new silicon hose to get it some clearance.

As per LandyLover's comment, it can be done with a bit of patience and encouragement !

I have changed mine recently, and now guess it would take about 20-30 mins to swap it over again.

For everyone's info - you can buy the small 90 degree elbow in silicone from Supercheap Auto ! Amazingly its a standard stock item.
