Thanks Neil. I think I'm pretty similar. When I was younger I was a shocker. Went through the the cycle of wreck and rebuild many times. I had more time then and I enjoyed it as well. The defender has had a few big hits lately. Had me getting out for a close inspection, especially since the remap. You have to admit it gets your blood up.

Having said that the Tdi is pretty amazing for what is and how they did it.
The TD5 really showed what Land Rover could do with some development $, it was so bloody advanced for it's time and with a VNT and decent tune it is still one hell of a light diesel, but I digress...

That's always been my experience too, and it also depends on the roads you drive.
Having spent the last fifteen years in the bush driving on mostly 'normal' country roads and tracks, you tend to tear tyres to bits.
I marvel at what others claim the get in terms of tyre life for similar/same rubber.
My tyre life is usually half what most claim with MT's.
Just the way it is.
I'm now hammering brakes far harder than I have in years doing a city commute, so I'll probably be up for new discs soon as the current ones are getting down a bit.
Can't complain as they've lasted well with all the country miles the car has mostly done.
Billy, not sure what time you start of a morning, but keep an eye out for the filthy off white 130 CC terrorising the morning commuters on the A4 just after 6:00 each morning for the next few weeks.
The arvo run back depends entirely on how much OT I feel like doing on any given day. :D
Gave a wave to one like that today. Got a casual one back as well. We have to go over to Manly for Lachie's Rugby semi against the Roos 930 kick off. Then to his Aunty's at Beacon Hill for a shower and change. So we will probably not head until 11. But I always keep an eye out. Oh and ditto on the tires and breaks for me too. When I say I need new tires the Missus says "But you only just got tires."
