Angry Prudence is not my strong point.

I have destroyed quit a few cars in my time. Not by pranging them or with high explosives but by thrashing them and bashing them as if they were indestructible. I really don't want to destroy 'Biddy' the only car I've ever named. I want to keep her for life.
So how much is too much? Indicators are beginning to ring alarm bells. Recently she has had two blown Turbo Hoses. I suspect that they were caused, not by excessive pressure but by having to deal with the flexing pressures put on them by the engine moving backwards and forwards in its mounts. I suspect also that this is due to the afore mentioned banging and crashing with a modicum of thrashing thrown in.
I have noticed that there has been a design improvement in one of this hoses but still I beg the benefit of your wisdom. Please give me some idea as to when I should ease up a touch.
    Cheers, Billy.

Your blown turbo hoses have nothing to do with how you drive your car - mine's spent plenty of time with its wheels in the air/engine working hard and it couldn't car less. Just check some silicon hoses in it and drive it hard but don't thrash it mindlessly and it will be fine.

If you have a complete lack of self control then just get a shorty GQ with Skyline donk in it and cheaply replace the body/chassis/engine as they fail.

I've got silicone hoses but I don't know if there is one to replace the last one that blew. I'll ask Pete Bell about that. Thanks.
    Cheers, Billy.

Thanks Pat. I am a bit of a perfectionist in that regard.

Hmmm, try tying the hoses away from the steering shaft (a known wear point) - I did this when I installed my silicone hoses (in my Puma) around five years ago, and no further issues.

Mine wouldn't be the hardest working Puma around, but since those hoses went in it's been flooded, almost rolled (more than once) and flogged up the Cape, the high country and Simpson all at GVM on 33 mud tyres and running a BAS remap.

Yep LR did a recall on that hose and added brackets to hold it. You could probably buy them for yours. The hose I'm referring to is a short "L" shaped one which connects to the Manifold on a 2.2.

Yeah, I heard about the bracket, and hoses blowing after it was fitted!

I'll bow out as the 2.2 hose arrangements must be different to the 2.4.

PS you might want to look for a few threads by the likes of Brendanm and MLD on tracks like Yawal, they seem to give the Pumas a bit of a work out and it might give you a sense of how hard you're working your engine mounts, etc.

    Cheers,

    Luke

Nothing lasts forever. Between the showroom and complete rebuild - Purely a cost/benefit equation, Billy.

The harder you drive it the more it bites your back pocket. (Funding the needed regular and proper maintenance).

Like you, I am pretty hard on vehicles. Not brutal or destructive, just hard/harsh: I never see the kinds of mileage others get from tyres and brakes or fuel. I accept that. In return I get the kind of driving enjoyment I like. It's a fair deal.
