I must be tone deaf as I cruise in the Tdi @ 115-120km/h on the freeway ?

Admittedly it runs 255/85's, but that's not a huge gearing change.

I had no issue getting it to over 100, it was just revving a bit more than I expected. I had 600 liters of water on the back plus tanks, hoses and pumps plus chainsaws and other gear. I probably had around a tonne on the back all up.

Chris that's just Eevo taking the ****.

He's a spark ignition man all the way, any opportunity to sink the boot into a compression ignition engine will do.

Just took my Td5 for a spin, 5th gear at 80kph is 2050rpm, 5th at 90kph is 2350rpm and 5th at 100kph is 2600rpm.. All give and take a little bit of course the tacho in it is an 8000rpm rev range one which I find annoying to read, who needs all that in a diesel!!
And Td5's do have a bit of a hum, you do get used to it but it seems like it's revving like crazy at first!

They are fun though I am first officer of our local rural brigade and we are low on numbers so I end up going on far far more burns and fires that I want to do. Actually it is becoming a bit of a pain in the butt. That said the burn we just did when I drove the TD5 I actually enjoyed for a change. I was having so much fun driving the Defender I clean forgot how much my eyes were stinging with the smoke and how much I was missing my glass on wine and chicken roast that was waiting for me (burn went longer than expected )

Ashcroft have a good calculator on their web site with all the Land Rover ratios in drop down menus.

    It's 2510 according to them.

    Ashcroft Transmissions - Ratio Calculator
