The tilt types work just fine and I would recommend them.
I used to use a fixed type rack but it really was a PITA when I look back.
G'day all, hope you had a great weekend.
I'm at the point where I need to cart two adult mountain bikes and one kids bike on very trip and soon I will have to add another kids bike.
I have bike rack, hitch type that can take 4 bikes, but then I have to take them all off to get into the back as I have a cargo barrier.
If I put them on the roof, it takes all the space up on the roof rack.
I've seen some hitch tilt racks, do they work well, or should I hang them of the spare tire? Is it strong enough?
Your thought would be appreciated.
Kind regards
J

Not cheap but what I'll buy to cart my and my partner's mountain bikes...
looks like the iSi is great, great quality but the price you pay is just not worth it in my opinion. If they drop the price with 20% they will likely sell a hell of a lot more.
It depends on what your after. I looked at all the options and having to rule out the ones that carry the bikes on the crossbar and was going to be easy to fold up or take apart to put in either car the iSi was the best fit. But there are plenty of other options out there.

I have a Yakima spare time on mine which is great but won't help you, only fits 2 bikes like all spare tire carriers.
Have a look at Thule, they do both a tilt type and a swing away hitch type. Both are excellent.
