    2000 defender td5 belt help

With two days before heading north I need to replace the serpentine belt as it is making a squealing noise. The belt needed is a 7pk 1825 and this is what is currently on it. It appears no one can get one before I leave. I have made 30 plus ph calls with no joy. I have two places to try tomorrow that were closed today due to a public holiday in NSW. I can get a gates belt that is 5 mm shorter, a 7pk1820 but am unsure if it will fit and hoping someone might be able to tell me. I couldn't find a definite answer in my searches. The defender has ac. Alternatively if someone nearby has one in their spares I would be happy to buy it or replace it at a later stage.
    Thanks in advance.

    geelong

give hunter cuthill in geelong a call. i got a belt off him a couple of weeks back. they are great to deal with and will do overnight express although the auspost charge isnt cheap. he had both belts in stock as well. their number is 5229 4299 the belt cost 55 odd dollars so was cheaper than other places i had tried. im not affiliated in any way but simply a happy customer who has used them a few times now and always been happy with their service.

    cheers cactus

Some developments but none the wiser.

I rang JC and spoke to his offsider who relayed the questions for me. BIG thumbs up to you JC and Co. I think Justin was hinting that they are a tight fit and a 1825 would be the one to go for.

With no 1825 belt in Bendigo, Shepparton, Cobram, Corryong, Albury, North albury, Wodonga, Bright and Benalla I am getting a bit more than frustrated.

The closest I came was Brooks Motors in Wodonga after some discussion around Vin numbers and AC they produced a HYM1132 which is the part number for a 7pk 1825. I inspected the belt to find it was a 1820. They had two of them there, one was Dayco and the other was Gates. They wanted $120 something for it and I told them that was ridiculous. They rang there supplier who told them the retail has gone up to $234 !!!!!

I walked out a broken man with no belt.

Try 4wd industries, they should have them and do fast delivery from Maitland.

You can also try Mario and Heather from Roverlord (on this forum or check their eBay page).

Always a pleasure dealing with both of them.

I currently have one overnighted out of Melbourne for delivery tomorrow fingers crossed it is over night and fingers crossed it is correct.

Still curious about the 1820 and if it will fit if anyone knows.

Keep a length of strapping tape in the back for when you need to fit it...

The noise you describe is more likely the idler or tensioner bearing - be prepared....

    Strapping tape?

I have replaced one bearing in one of the idler pulleys and then have got another now for the other idler pulley. 6303 bearings for future reference, and the spares bloke locally only had the one. I suspect a pulley misalignment but either way I am hoping for a cheap and easy fix.

Hi , after reading your post , I know I have a new spare belt in the back of my 2000 extreme , so went and brought t in . It is a Contitech 7 PK 1825 made in Germany It came from Rovercraft , there No is HYM1132-A BELT . If you get sorted out , all well and good . If the belt you ordered is wrong , let me know , you can have It for what I payed for It . If I can add the bearing on my air compressor pulley went , It became noisy first . So maybe check that out !!.. Jim

Pretty sure that if you loosen off the aircon belts that you can get an 1820 belt on. Meant to say bolts !!!
