    300tdi defender Oils

    Hey guys
    Ive recently purchased a 1996 300tdi defender 110.
I don't think the oil has been changed in the Gear box, Transfer boxes and the front and rear differentials for a while.
Ive been doing a bit of research on what oils to use for an oil change but Ive only got confused.

Whats everyones thoughts on what oils to use?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers

P.s I live in Margaret river, WA.

    300tdi defender

howdy im in cairns, we have a 98 110 defender 300tdi, and I run penrite 15w40 in the engine, change oil and filter every 5000ks, air cleaner every 5000ks, gearbox penrite 75/80 manual transmission oil every 5000ks, transfer box Castrol ep 80/90 as in the front and rear diffs
in my opinion these are the best oils for our conditions hope this helps

    These are my choices after some experimentation;

Engine - Castrol RX Super 15W40
Front diff - Castrol EP 80W90
Rear diff - Pentrite EP 85W140
TC - Pentrite Pro Gear 85W110
    GB - Motul Gear 300 75W90
Swivel hubs - same oil as front axle (changed hub seal to run oil)
I only use genuine oil and air filters

I was using Castrol EPX 85W140 in the Salisbury rear diff but found it was coming out looking like dirty grease after only a few thousand kms. Almost like slime. The Pentrite is the same weight but is easier to pour and the diff is quieter. Yet to drain it.

Engine oil change every 5-7,000kms. GB, TC and diffs every 20,000 or earlier if I've been on a trip with water crossings.
