    Puma radiator options

    Hi All
I am up for a radiator in the 130 with the header tank starting to weep on each side of the fins mid way down where the plastic is crimped to the core. I was looking into upgrades possibly an aftermarket alloy version. Bruce Davis retails one that has been developed in collaboration with PWR in Qld. It is a heavier duty Alloy item, 15mm wider and still fits standard mounts, though at nearly $1400 makes me feel I should look around a little more.

This seemed like a good place to ask as I imagine I am not the first to need a radiator and think if it needs replacing it may as well be upgraded for longevity. Does any one have experience or been through this with a Puma? Some preliminary research suggests that a TD5 radiatior may be interchangeable with a TDCi. Interested to hear thoughts

If you do decide to go the aftermarket route, there's a custom radiator guy nearby in the Narellan area:
    Shauns Custom Alloy
The website is not much use but I found him when looking at radiator options for my P38. I have no idea what his prices are like but he seems to go for the bling / hot rod end of the market so they might be exxy.

Allisport are an option at the premium end
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

After looking at options for a 300tdi I went to Allisport, similar price to anything custom in Oz, and can't fault there quality, 5 days for order to doorstep.

    Cheers

    Do you have a 2.4 or 2.2?

Is there a particular reason why you need to upgrade, i.e. was your engine getting too hot with the original radiator? I replaced mine with a standard radiator about 18 months ago, purely because the shroud had rubbed through the core and caused a leak. I used a stock radiator, cost about $450 from memory. Temp has never shifted, including during travel at max GVM through the central deserts and top end, commuting in 44 degree temps etc.

Do you have an egt gauge installed?
If so what sort of exhaust temps were you getting?

It is the 2.4. 2008 model. The reason for the upgrade is that it is running 35inch tyres and under geared through the hubs so the car works harder at highway speeds. There is a gauge recently installed though yet to be connected at the exhaust end. That should take place this weekend.
The car is not a daily driver so only ever sees rougher tracks bit of towing and loads being a ute. The idea of having a plastic tank crimped to a metal core will give a differentiation in material expansion with heat and this is before the bumps the car absorbs on the harder tracks. It is not a car I intend to sell so thought an upgrade would be reasonable for longevity and reliability.
Checked out the Allisport web site. This seams to be the kind of thing I am after. I will phone around this week to see if there is an Aust stockist as I need something before the week is out when I head down to Victoria.
