SubscriberI'm after advice on available depth behind the side panels on the puma dash.
For the uninitiated, these ones:
Mainly hoping to find out:
1) What's the max depth behind this panel if I want to set-in a switch or similar component (are both L+R sides symmetrical?)
2) is the depth uniform across the flat surface top to bottom, or is there ac ducts, wire looms or brace bars behind portions of it that will get in the way of a panel mount install?
3) Can I see what's behind these panels bt removing the centre panel and radio, or is it a 'dash off' job?
Or even better, if anyone can chime in who has done the 'double DIN stereo mod, and hacked a whopping big hole in the location to fit the panel to house all the displaced switches:

SubscriberI'm looking to mount this in a panel mount configuration, need to cut a 54mm dia hole to mount, and need approx 50mm behind the panel to allow wiring to be clipped into the back of the unit.
The bezel will sit proud of the flat panel, but I want to get it as low as possible on the panel on the driver's side, as I'll probably end up putting some carling switches up higher.

I have used the top on the left of this area for a USB out let.
I have a feeling there is a moulded brace on the rear of the area you want to use.
As has been said slip the centre trim of and you will be able to look in there.
Have a talk to Nugget or check his build thread, he has recently released a carling switch mount for that area.

SubscriberThankyou one and all, things are looking promising.
Unit is a battery state of charge monitor. So should be a good thing if I can mount it in a location which is both accessible and out of the way of more important 'functional' switches.

There is heaps of room behind that area, you will have no problems.
There is a moulded bracing system which you will need to cut back with a dremel or the like. It can be tricky, its not too hard to remove the dash if your not confident in getting it straight and cutting the bracing.
