Hey guys, so I'm stripping the interior and cleaning up the truck in my time off, insulating it and all that. So im under the drivers seat and im finally going to untangle the mess that was there when I bought it, reline it, insulate etc etc.. I had a dual battery setup on the other side that was shot and also it was setup with trailer brake etc..
so what is this thing? I though it was just a trailer brake setup, as by the way it was just hacked into the ECU, i did a search on the part number SAAB FRCRTD5 and it comes up with a lot of pages in foreign languages but not a whole lot else, i've narrowed it down ( i think) to either an aftermarket ABS controller, a diesel performance setup - dimsport in Europe do this with this part number, or it's some sort of trailer brake attachment.
Any ideas guys.... FYI ive had a persistent surging problem for a loooong time now. Ive literally chased everything, wastegates, turbo hoses, thermostats, handbrakes, alternators - just redid the fuel pump and harmonic balancer too as they needed doing... I'm wondering if my NNN ECU upgrade from Jose is having conflict with what could be some sort of diesel tuning setup maybe? it has a little control box with a simple on/off switch and a blue light that comes on.. The car was sluggish as hell when i got it... joses map and allisports intercooler helped that out, but i have joses turbo coming soon and want to sort this out..
ANY IDEAS???
thanks again guys.

I've seen something like that before, it seems to have escaped me now...
But I think it could be a clip on tuning box?

SubscriberThe first photo's look like some type of ECU chip.
If it is it could account for your performance issues.
Does the light come on when you push the brake pedal?
If it does then it could be a brake controller.
You could also check this by attaching a voltmeter between pin no 5 (service brake) and earth on the trailer plug.
If you get voltage across these two when you push the brake it means that the trailer brake is working.
Alternatively it could be a combination of both!
Best bet IMO is to rip the whole lot out, go back to the standard set up and start again.
Good luck!!

What ever it is, with that many scotch locks, it's one heck of a dodgy installation. As suggested by others, I'd rip the whole lot out.

Would it be a BAS fixed limit boost box?

What it is, is worthy of me extending my expletive range...
Get it out, reterninate the harness plugs correctly and do it right. Its such utterly crap install work Im not even going to waste the bandwidth to see the full size pictures. Assuming the quality of the components is better than the quality of the install work (which isnt saying much) its probably still not up to par with other stuff you can obtain and I'll just shortcut the list here

I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I commit an offence, or get it completely wrong and it makes no sense. The wires it is attached to look to be the injector wires, yellow with a coloured trace. This may explain the performance issues if it is feeding power in. If you remove it check the wires carefully as some of the strands will have been cut by the connectors.
