    Hi guys,

I am pretty sure there was a thread on here a while ago about after market heat resistant heavy duty floor matting. I have tried the search but can't find it.
Does any one have some info on this matting the original puma matting is rubbish.

    Cheers

Mines stuffed aswell all the rubber is cracked and the material on top is separating from the rubber. It seems to hang in there though it just looks crap
I've looked at replacing it, there's a uk outfit called exmoor trim that have a few different options, some are pretty expensive though if you want the heavy duty rubber.
Probably cheaper to go to a auto trimmer and source something.

Exmor have a pretty good reputation, & the H.D. matting they supply is, I believe, the same as used in U.K. Military Defenders.
It is rather expensive, but it's also pretty hard wearing I've heard.
I'd be interested to learn of your local alternative.

I have the Exmor, it was cheaper than a replacement from Landrover and worth every cent. The heat and noise reduction is dramatic and there is no way it will rip or wear through.

I bought some heavy duty truck/bus rubber flooring mat from Tru Fit Carpets in Dandenong. It is a very heavy mat and a great sound deadener.
I just cut it to suit and put it under the original floor mats.
It is much quieter now !

When I think about floor insulation I worry that it forms a hidden space where water can lurk and rust begin its sinister work.

My floor mats are also not the greatest, but I went for a cheap option. I went to a local second hand store and bought a stack of used carpet squares for $2 each. They are rubber backed.
Then I just spread them around in the footwells, the floor for the rear passengers and around the luggage area.
They have a number of advantages:
They were cheap so I don't care if they get muddy as I just scrub them clean and let them dry.
The carpet is commercial grade and quite hard-wearing.
    They protect the original mats.
They cut out quite a lot of noise.
They can be any colour you can find.
If you put them in upside down the rubber base forms a hard wearing floor covering for the feet. To hold them in place just stick some Velcro on the floor and the carpet will stick to the Velcro.
I suppose you could cut them to fit, but I haven't bothered.
When I go camping I can lay them down on the ground in any pattern to form a ground cover.
Did I mention they were cheap?
    Just a thought.
