do the gearbox mounts at the same time.

get some good spanners.

jack it under the snout or lift the engine with an engine crane.

remove the mounts from the engine while you're at it. I generally find it easier to

1. loosen off the nuts for the rubber mount
2. lift the engine a little
3. undo the mount from the engine
4. landrover tetris
5. clean
6. reverse everything but step 5 (you just cleaned it, dont make it dirty again)

but then I'm usually doing more than just an engine mount.

check the exhaust bits and the hangers, bet they need changing too. if they do slack the exhaust mounting bolts and pull those as well.

remove the fan shroud, or the fan.

degrease everything outside first.

take out the center cross member and derust the chassis and the ends of that while you're under there.

If I remember correctly it is a tight fit.
You need to lift and then roll the engine slightly to get enough clearance.
Best to take the fan, shroud and top hose off.

I have changed every other bush and mount on this thing bar the engine mounts, mostly because I rebuilt the gearbox and LT, so replaced their mounts in the process. I admit I should have done the engine mounts at the same time, but failed to do so, so left with just this task.

It's the Tetris that worries me.......

I can see it's pretty tight, hence my request for any tips!
I'll do as you have suggested and see how I go!

slack of the gearbox mounts to free them up a little to help with the twisting, you can use a jack under the tcase to assist with rolling it over.

the tetris is a lot easier if you remove the mount from the engine as part and parcel.


I forgot step 1...

Take the bonnet off or at least close the front flaps, and ocky strap it vertical.

From memory the last time I did it without an engine crane I used a block of wood to make a flat platform over the diff and then used a scissor jack to do the lift at the front of the engine.

I've got an engine crane and a trolley jack, so I should be ok
