2012 Defender 110 battery and fuse box filling with water

    Hey guys,

I have done a bit of looking around about this and found a bit but still have some questions. When I got stuck the other day in water my battery and fuse boxes under my seats filled with water. It was a real bastard and also stuff some of my electrics stuffed up which took ages to clean up and make work again. I was thinking of sealing them up with some plain old silicon and gomets of required. Yea I understand I need to get in there from time to time but was thinking nothing a Stanley blade wouldn't undo. Also I have consider the battery venting but on my battery has a hose at the top which goes through a gromet at the floor of the box which I believe is for venting so I can't see that being an issue. Was wondering if some had any other things I haven't considered or any thoughts about it. Please I am doing a trip soon so I don't have time right now to move all the electrics somewhere else so don't make this thread all about that just want opinions on seling up the boxes. Thanks guys.

Hi , There's no reason why you can't seal the joints in and around you battery box . I would use selastic , type sealer .. I brought a big tube " silicon size " from Bunnings $10.50 It's better than silicon , and can be cleaned off with turps , While you got it out , there are lots of other places you can use it on , on you'r Land Rover . Get underneath have a good look . Good luck , Jim
