Thread: Rear inward facing seat belt anchorage / tool box

Ive been tinkering with an old (probably 1986) county tub that has anchorages for inward facing seats.

The left hand side has the toolbox/cubby/locker accessed via a hatch in the horizontal surface of the inner wheel arch.

The toolbox space is formed by closing off the back of the arch with a piece of sheet that runs (nearly) flat at the rear and angles up at about 45 at the front.

It meets the stiffener plate for the middle pair of seatbelt anchors at the front edge. (and the stiffener partially obstructs the "lid" of the tool cubby inside.

The other wheel arch is different (has the fuel filler etc). The middle stiffener is different - more "mono bolt" rivets and th whole thing further forward.

This is exactly what is described in the parts catalogue (which just shows the right side in the diagram but lists the asymmetric parts)

FUNNY thing tho is that the 1987 "Defender" parts catalogue shows/ lists a symmetrical arrangement for the middle stiffener

SO - how does the angled part of the toolbox/ cubby floor join the middle stiffener in the newer (post 1987) cars?

Peter was kind enough to help me solve the mystery.

The tool compartment was discontinued after 1987 so the seat belt anchors could be a mirror image of the right side.
