St Ives NSW .....I know how to connect it all up as long as I can get the power wire and the antenna coaxial through the fire wall to the drivers footwell area ....as that is where I want to locate my radio ......I have installed same radio in a discovery and it worked a treat..........A hard to locate Gromit was the only challenge there once overcome rest was easy .................so how to get through the fire wall in a defender on the drivers side is the thing ...................

Hi , just to add to all the info you've had . I cut the little rubber tits off the fire wall grommets with a really sharp blade , then used a long piece of wire , I was surprised how easy I found it on both sides of the fire wall inside the cab . I just used tape to the wire and pulled then through , It was a lot easier than I was expecting !!.. Jim ..:)
Ok chaps ....with your great help I'm almost there ......got the coaxial antenna cable through to where I need it.....great ......have decided that it makes great sense to bring the power from the switch panel .....which I gently removed .....
So far so good .......I can see the clock connection ..... 3 wires ...red. Black and purple ......my radio only has red and black ......
Not sure how to connect to the clock .....looks to have a little black plug thing and a cable tie on it ........before I break anything ......do I just cut the cable tie and remove the clock "plug " ...............then how do I wire up to the clock ......
Hope I don't need to solder as its a bit tricky with the gear leaver holding me from pulling the switch box fully out ..........
I avoided all that and kept my power feeds inside the vehicle, running from under the passenger seat up to the cubby and along the transmission tunnel under the mats to several locations. Collected several wires and the UHF antenna together in one protective sheath. Saved a lot of mucking about.
