    Wiring access

I am fitting one of those small cigarette packet sizes radios
I want to get the wiring from the battery box under the passenger seat down under the car and back up through firewall on the drivers side .....down near the pedals................. I also need to get the antenna cable in there ....I have had a look down there and also from under the bonnet but cannot see any easy access holes.......

Before I start ripping stuff out ....can anyone suggest where I might start .....I just need a small hole to get said radio power wire and antenna coaxial through

    Thanks a bunch

There is two oval shaped grommets on the firewall. The passenger side one is below the heater tap arrangement (the white valve looking thing).
There is a few spare nubs you can cut off to get wires thru back behind the dash.

(this is on a puma, your results may vary)

For the coax cable consider the gromet near the clutch master cylinder.
The is a wire from the clutch switch going through it to behind the dash.
From memory it also has the am/fm radio aerial cable through it.

For power consider piggy backing off the power out let(cigarette lighter).
This an accessory feed the radio will turn off when key removed.

It will be easier to do with the radio/switch panel removed to join the power and earth wires.
With the instrument cluster removed you can access the gromet (easier with a stiff pull wire).

As per above, from doing a Puma.

Ok thanks .......is this the oval grommets that you mean.....there is one either side ....passenger and driver ......those Stuckey out bits look like the cutoffs you refer to .........I want to hard wire the radio directly to the battery as it works .....even when the key is out ..........but could consider the cig lighter ...
......how do I get the radio switch panel out .....looks to have 2 nuts only .....black star nuts .....does the whole switch panel move out including the clock up top ...............bit nervous of going in there in case I have a disaster :

Undo the two star bolts and then you can prize the whole lot out. I think there are about four clips that hold it in, bit challenging at first but once you get the hang of it it is quite easy. The clips hold the unit on well and the radio will come out as well. While you are in there check that the wires that come over the back of the radio cradle are not rubbing on the radio case, as they did with mine causing much grief.

Clock comes out as part of the facia.
You could get power from the clock too.
PM sent if you want to ring to talk it over before you attack your pride and joy.

The pm floated up ....then dissappeared .....said some thing about cookies .....
.......I know less about cookies and baking and computers than I do about Landrovers ........yes I would like to discuss before I go hacking into my dashboard .........I have wired up the same radio in a discovery and it was fine once I got the wires through the fire wall ........

Ok I like that idea as the clock is always on .......therefore the UHF radio would also be always available ............but do I have to do any soldering .....this is something I shy away from .....never works for me I'm afraid .......
