    First service

    Hi there,
    My Defender 90 is going in for its first warranty service tomorrow (only 13,000 km so far, have spent most of the year working overseas). No apparent problems but what do they check & what should I be asking them to check? Thanks, Pete

    I would certainly ask for them to specifically target suspension bolts for tightness .

    Thanks for those replies. Well the service was done and I asked for the suspension bolts to be checked for tightness. Was told that wasn't part of the "standard" service so it cost me an additional $84
    Also asked about the frayed driver's seat belt (the thing gets caught up on the door latch every time I close the door). Was told that was a common Landrover problem and they would happily replace it for me for $338

    At least I got a box of chocolates

    In 2014 when I took my new defender to the ACT dealer for a 1,000 km check, they all seemed totally dumbfounded why I thought a new vehicle would need checking. I was quite amazed.

    From memory, I don't think I was charged, but they did sting me a smidge over $500 for a 10,000 km service as it was not "scheduled". I had another at 20,000 km which was free, then my 30,000 km was also free.

    The vehicle came back from the 30k with a non-functional rear wiper, and I just checked the service paperwork which suggested "fuse ok, more time needed for investigation."

    Has the adapter shaft been greased from the factory (see other threads).

    Nige,

    My first service at the same dealer cost an arm & a leg! How did you manage to get them for free? Asked about changing the diff oils & was told levels would be checked but no need to change until 80,000 Km!! Also pointed out the problems other Def owners were having with the non-lubed adapter shaft & asked about having it checked & lubed. Not part of scheduled service so no chance unless there was a problem.
    Attitude especially regarding the seat belt wear did not fill me with confidence
