Help needed to find the correct rear shock for my 130

    Hi all

The rear suspension on my 1998 130 currently has Dobinson raised coils (approx 50MM with 19mm wire), poly air bags and twin Bilstein shock absorbers on each side using the Terrafirma twin mounts

These shock absorbers are part number B46-0253.

I have always loved the ride, but they are way too short - they are close to full extension just at rest. Now I have one leaking so it's time to get the right length shock.

The B42-0253 measurements are (off the net)

    Compressed: 346mm
    Extended: 553mm

I have been researching the net and found that Bilstein make a shock for the Toyota 80 series- part number B46-1478 with measurements:

    Compressed: 380
    Extended: 591mm

But understand that I will have to mount these upside down.

I am happy with extending the bump stops. That's easy.

Is anyone running this shock or are there other alternative part numbers? From memory I had Bilsteins to suit a Nissan GQ shocks on the rear of my previous Range Rover, but it had a 3" spring lift so these might be too big.

    Thanks heaps

well...after a lot or researching and head scratching, I have decided to go back to a single shock set up in the rear using Koni Raid 90-5401's

I need to get this done before Easter!

I'll be selling the twin Bilstein set up and will put it up on the forum once removed.

B460253 have always been too short for 130. They are only just long enough in a 110 in my experience.

The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

I've been running BE5-6529 on the rear of my 110, Heasmans in Sydney told me they are a 130 shock they have a one piece bush with steel sleeve in the eye, much better control than the B46-0253 I was originally running.

I removed my second shocks in the rear ages ago, just thought they weren't necessary. When I get around to it, I'm going to remove the dual mounts and refit the OEM mounts.

I reckon Koni Raids are probably the way to go, despite their high cost.

Vern - the 90-5401 are specifically for the 130...from all the googling I did.

From memory closed length was 380mm and open length was 600mm I am not sure how this measurement was taken (googling did not provide any back up), but I am assuming middle of eye to base of pin.

Ranga....I hope you didn't throw out your original top shock mount like i did! I had to buy replacements. I have also ordered longer bump stops.

Ok....all I can say is....they are huge!!! Makes the Bilsteins look like chop sticks.

There are new bump stops in there as well. Will test them out this weekend
