    130 Chassis flex/camper overhang

Hi all, even though I haven't updated my 130 build thread yet, the rig is getting closer to roadworthy and I have been doing a lot of searching for a camper unit to fit on the back of the DC tray.

Ive pretty much settled on a style and supplier but would like some thoughts.

The camper unit I'm looking at has a tilt top and approximately 400mm overhang over the headboard of the tray.
I have 2 options when the unit is supplied for the headboard clearance height.
    In my case:
Option 1 provides for 50mm/2 inches clearance between Cab roof and camper overhang.
Option 2 provides for 150mm/6 inches clearance.

I may need to "pack" the camper 20mm for the tray but it should fit straight on without packing.

    My question/s:
Anybody know how much I could expect the chassis to flex?
Would 50mm be enough or even 70/75mm with a "packing runners" or should I expect to need the extra clearance?

    thanks in advance

Well how mutch weight will you have over the back and what sort of country will you be into ?? . I know that when loaded at 3750 kg my 130 suffered at the tray \ chassis mount points. Even when crawling over **** ground in first / second , the movement of chassis vs well loaded tray was noticeable and tore up the tray mounts.
I think you will surprised at the amount of movement that the slide on will have when you drive of the tar and over the first wind roe.

The camper will weigh in approximately 450kg to 500kg full
I wont know exactly until on the weigh bridge, however standard book figures and then adding each (weighed)additional accessory has been done and includes fuel tanks, bullbar, sliders, guards, tray, shocks, seats.
So far calculated should see it max trip laden about 3200kg including us.

I've had a couple of different set ups of these and learnt a few things along the way. #1 is do not believe any quoted weight figures unless you have seen it yourself on a set of scales. The next most important one is not so much the overhang or total weight but where this weight is positioned. You can get away with quite a heavy camper if it is set up correctly. As for roof clearance, I would definitely buy the lower one and the jack it a little on the tray if necessary, every inch of height makes a huge difference to vehicle handling.

I was thinking better to pack an already clearing overhang too rather than have more than needed and still possibly have to pack a little during fitting,
I'm essentially getting an empty box with a tilt top and lift off jacks.
Power, water, cooling and cooking setup need to be sorted by me. Keeping the weight fwd won't be too difficult.

Are you concerned about maintaining clearance from the headboard/roof or are you planning to accommodate the flex in the mountings somehow like 4wd trucks have to?

Yes, I don't want to find a ding in the roof after twisting over rough stuff.
