Thread: Hail cover?

Bit off topic but we recently had a problem with our garage door so got a guy out to take a look at it. Mentioned it was a shame we couldn't fit the 90 in the garage and he says "I reckon you can". A few tweaks on the panel glide system and now we have a garaged Defender! Looks like on the initial install they didn't bother to set it up properly and the panels had much more scope to retract right into the ceiling. Anyway, I just mention it as we had no idea ... was even looking into building a carport! So if your garage door is the problem maybe look into it.

If you have roof rack and bull bar you could secure a tarp to the back of roof rack pull it across the front and stretch down to the bull bar and elastic strap it on. I reckon that will do the job and cheaper than anything else. Just hope it doesn't hail sideways.

I went to Autobarn today and bought a cheap hail cover to tide me over till I have a proper one.

There were no Autotechnic ones for 4WDs in stock but there was another brand that had a similar look, with that crinkly silver coating. That was about $320.00 and has a 1 year warranty.

The one I bought (brand called Streetwize) is made in China, cost about $270.00 and has a 2 year warranty. Its padding, which they include a sample of on the outside of the box, is 6mm neoprene beneath the outer shell.

Both of the ones I've mentioned have statements on the box saying only the top surfaces of the vehicle are protected, since they're the only surfaces with the padding. So as Seaweed mentioned, not perfect but would help as long as the wind isn't too strong and they're coming in sideways. And of course is fine as a general cover against the elements.

Features on the one I bought:
- Four breathing slots along the roof line
- A reflective triangle stitched into the front grill area of the cover
- Elastic edge
- Ties that pass under the vehicle to hold it on
