			TD5 130 prep

Hello all, had a sad day yesterday. Sold my 76 rangie that I bought as a 18yo and have driven everyday since (Im now mid 40's). I guess its nice its going to be restored by an enthusiast now. I guess its nice its going to be restored by an enthusiast now.

To heal my pain I scored a very low mileage (much less than 100000) 2000 TD5 130, bog standard.

Given its so minty fresh, could you all make some suggestions what I should be doing in a preventative capacity from the outset in the way of modifications and corrections. I know about the pump bolt and Im pretty sure the EGR is wobbly . Im sure you all have retrospective "if only Id done XX at the start" type suggestions. . Im sure you all have retrospective "if only Id done XX at the start" type suggestions.

Also if you have a preferred type of mod eg "mantec" snorkel or XX wheel carrier etc please let me know. My dad has the sweetest tricked out 110 TDi but the 130 clearly is a different beast and needs specific consideration. Best place to put the .... on a 130 is....., best TD5 130 ecu chip is...??? etc. Its going to be a kid friendly tourer (there's a really great silver 130 on here that I kinda hope to replicate). I have always used a Oz tent and usually have a canoe on board. I also have to tow (2.5t) occasionally.

Found the "tourer" thread, looking forward to your suggestions.

 cheers
 Dale

Congrats and welcome to the never uninteresting TD5s First and foremost, make sure its got all the correct fluids in it and all the servicing is up to date. Incorrect servicing is the biggest killer of TD5s. But as a previous LR owner you will know that. Apart from that its much the same as any other. Just lift the bonnet frequently and check things. Ditch the EGR, install an EGT gauge, even if you dont tweak it a gauge is good to have. Make sure all the radi hoses are in good nick, They really hate being overheated.Snorkels are good, helps keep the filters cleaner, NOT as an excuse to swim it! Any of the better brands are oki. Thanks for the welcome. So... which EGT gauge is best, is there a better designed EGR delete, should I fit a boost gauge? Intercooler options for rechip? DECat necessary? Which Chip and by whom for mild performance improve better economy??
