    I've never found a bolt of the right size.
    M10 or a touch smaller sort of fits.
    The axle should come out with the old flange because of the circlip.

    Not on mine the flange bolts are a very loose fit, but they will allow you to pull the axle out.

    pull it with the flange... it also happens to be one of the easiest ways to break the seal with the flange, handbrake on all bolts out chock the other wheel and turn the wheel you just unbolted the flange from.

    position the section of the flange with the hole in it in line with one of the wheel studs, pull the wheel (if you didnt already) and then use a seal hook or small prying bar off of the stud and the back of the flange.

    The internal thread on the front axles on a Defender are;

    7/16 BSF and have been since the dawn of time..

    While on older Defenders the axle will pull through with very little effort on newer models if fitting the likes of HTE (brand name) heavy duty flanges the fit is too tight and will require something like a sliding hammer.

    The pic is a sliding hammer we made up many years ago, the adapter on the end is the 7/16 BSF thread.
