    defender vent flaps

hey guys first time defender owner. Question vent flaps. I need to replace the seals there so i need to take them off. Should they open fully to horozontal position looking from outside. My series three landy i thin did. But the defender ones seem to barely move away from the body when fully pushed out from inside cab..Is something bent etc???

No. Remove the pin/bolt that is the hinge and if needs be the lever arm connection to back of flap. Fit seals, reattach vents.

They should open at least 60 degrees from their closed position. I had the same problem and it was a seized hinge that can only be accessed once you take off the split pin that acts as an external hinge as noted above by manic. The lever you move in the cabin pushes an arm that is comprised of two flat pieces joined by a bolt or rivet (can't remember) and the external/ forward end of that two piece arm is attached to the vent flap by a small nut and bolt. It is that intermediate joint that needs freeing up.
