Air cleaner options for 3.5 V8 carbs

Any suggestions please for upgrade to the standard air cleaner on the twin carb V8 in my 110. The air filter needs replacing and the big air hose from the carb tee joint to the air cleaner drum is split so that needs replacing so probably a good time to look at alternate air cleaner setups.
If there is a thread about this already I can't find it

I'd keep it, replace the rubber hose, replace the filter both not too dear
There a good size stock, flow well, with a generous filter size, well located from water up high on the firewall. Putting pods to me seems a backward step, vulnerable to water and dust.

if you change to pod filters you will need to retune because they will change the airflow. It also might mean change in nedles in the carbs to adjust the fukes flow for the change in airflow.

Keeps he standard setup IMO. Pod filters are useless if you drive in any sort of dust - there is a huge thread here about it and some testing done by specialist engineers showing the results of different filters - pod filters are only good at keeping larger insects out of your engine, not dust or other fine particulates.

The standard filter will flow heaps more than a 3.5 could ever hope or dream of being able to breath. It would probably be cheaper to fix the factory unit than replace it anyway.

Why don't you keep the original air filter and install a cyclone pre-filter. This combination kept my filter clean for an extended period of time.
I have made a DIY tube extension to fit the cyclone cleaner, I used 2 inch PVC tubes but I am not sure if this gauge is sufficient to the 4.2 L engine I have.

Thanks guys, I have ordered the stock filter and a new hose so I'll go with that for now.
