Australian Insurance Writeoff ends up in NZ

    Hi,

Just spotted this 2012 defender on trade me here in NZ.

Land Rover Defender 2012 | Trade Me

It says that an Australian Insurance Company has written it off due to an engine problem - but now it is all fixed.

Does anyone over the Tasman recognise or know this vehicle?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

We have 2 types of write-off in Australia.
Statutory write-off,the vehicle has been significantly damaged and cannot be ever be re-registered in australia.Vin numbers get cancelled
Economic write-off,the vehicle can be repaired and as long as the repairs meet certain specifications(in WA) the vehicle can be re-registered.
And Diana stated, check it on the aussie vin website. There is a chance its a wreck bought in australia for the details to be ghosted onto a stolen kiwi vehicle.

NSW has only one type of write off - statutory (unless the vehicle meets certain criteria, e.g., historic, etc.)

Doesn't have to be ghosted Andy - there have been lots of stat write offs going to NZ, SA & 3rd world countries ever since the stat write off provisions were introduced here - hence the reason stat write-offs don't always go cheap enough for parts.
