Any possibilty of the wrong belt - fractionally too long and slipping, maybe the tensioner can't quite keep the required tension on because of this.

Hi everyone,
My 300tdi defender developed a serpentine belt whine a couple of weeks ago and now my battery light is flickering on in idle and stops while under any acceleration only to return when the foot is off the peddle. When I put talc on the belt the noise stops and battery light goes off.
Any idea of the issue? My tensioner was changed about 2000ks ago as well as the belt.
Thanks

Sounds like it could be a worn bearing in you alternator.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Hi I agree with Billy , get your alternator checked out , the bearing can seize and you will be getting a tow home . One of the disadvantage of the serpentine belt , any of these Pullies fail you stop . I once had an alternator bearing seize on my v8 County , I drove home using just the battery , best part of 200ks . because I took the fan belt off that side , still leaving the water pump working . Good luck , let us know how you get on ? Jim
Hi sorry haven't had time to check it out but light is staying on longer. I think alternator as well....
