Just for reference, I rang Massaro Motors in Morwell for a LRA price. They said the screen (Pilkington green UV filtered) was $674, & a new genuine seal was $274 :o. They also said that the job would have to be subbed out to a local windscreen fitter, as they don't have their panel shop any more. So there would be a labour charge as well, of course - $150 or so.

Clearly it is cheaper to go to a windscreen place direct. National Windscreens quoted $395 for supply & fitting of the glass, & $100 for a seal if required. This was for Chinese glass - not UV filtered, but a tint strip at the top. Not my preferred option.

In the end I have opted for O'Brien Autoglass at $580 incl. seal, & this is a green UV tinted glass, of a type I have had from them on other vehicles with complete satisfaction.

Looks like you got it sorted, but one tip i have is try get a plane clear windscreen without the blue tinted strip across the top. My screen was all clear but broken and didn't think to ask about the new one. When the bloke turned up to fit it he assured me that it will be fine but sure enough it's a PITA as being tall I look out the top bit of the windscreen. Cheers, Andrew.

Yep! I agree on this one. I was put off by the quote from National Windscreens which was the cheapest - but it was a tinted strip across the top.

I checked this with O'Briens for their quote, so should be OK.

Job is now completed. Technician from O'Briens who arrived was a pom. Keen Landrover man! :)

The rubber seal was in good condition & could be re-used with no worries - this saved a bit of money.

It's a pretty easy job to do, but I'm not sure I would attempt it myself. The screen itself looks very good quality, & is green tinted uniformly. Very smooth with no hint of "waviness".

All up it cost $551, which was OK. I could have got a cheaper job, but I think the glass quality may have been less good.

My defender doesn't have a windscreen.

Instead, it came from the dealer fitted with a large piece of rectangular glass, which apparently functions as a channel for funnelling cold water onto my right foot whenever it rains. Technology eh? :wasntme:

$551 seems a pit pricey for a Defender screen. I had mine replaced a few months ago under insurance as it had a large star in it. Seal was reused and I am sure the bill to the insurance company was a little over $300. I know the screen itself was only around $200. Also done in our driveway.

Anyone know the replacement cost of one with heated glass from the cold pack? The glass with a **** load of fine elements running through the glass.

I got a defender screen installed recently, $200 - supply and install. I have 2 from the same supplier and they are both fine so far.
