    Hannibal rack dimensions?

Hi folks, building a canopy for my HCPU 130 and I intend to fit a full length Hannibal rack eventually. Can anyone tell me the width across the back of the rack, between the two main upright's braces. I want to make sure my design for the canopy's rear hatch will be ok. The other thing is how far out does a Hannibal side ladder stand out from the side of the vehicle?

    Many thanks
    Dale

PS- do you have any "I wish Id added a ..... when I built/bought my canopy" sort of things?

Ladder varies as its tapering out, in between 11 and 12 cm

    Thumbs up

Hey thanks for the ladder dimensions.

On a 130 with the rear supports that come up from the lower tub corners, they angle in and then there js a brace that goes from the support to the tray frame. Im guessing this is going to be in the way of a rear hatch.

you can see what I mean here

Im pretty sure Ive seen this 130 on AULRO. Can anyone point me to the owner?

I have that rack and ladder. There is a pic on my build thread in "Members Rides" - quite a recent one, which will give you a visual of how far the ladder protrudes from the body. I'm off to work now but if I remember I'll get some dimensions this arvo and post them up. The ladder could be spaced out in several ways should you desire additional clearance.

As for the canopy: I have a rooftop tent that folds out sideways over the drivers side. A full length lift up door would foul the tent ladder. I would have to employ a 2 piece door here I imagine - like utility companies do on their work vehicles to avoid having the door sticking out into traffic.

Might not affect you, but worth considering if you ever intend on folding a tent off the side.

Make sure it has good struts on the doors, strong locks, and good ventilation and sealing. Some people pressurize them by use of a fan drawing through an air filter.

I was intending to pitch the canopy sides so the top corners don't stick out all that far; knowing my luck Id wipe them on the nearest tree. I might as well make the pitch so its the same projection as the ladder. With my ladder as a (slight) barrier/warning system on the left and hopefully with me being more aware of the drivers side Ill keep myself from doing damage.

I like the idea of pressurising it. Thanks for that.

I use a RV5 Oztent if staying put/touring locally and swags if we're moving on.

    Here's the plan

Cut down the left side of the tub to have the canopy door to level with the wheel well top. This should make loading and a Fridge drop down slide, on forward left easier to use (Im running 33's at the moment which Ill eventually change to 255/85's so car is pretty tall) Plastic storage boxes. Left side awning.

Flat floor in tub across wheel arches, with hinged side compartments and a forward compartment/bin for spares etc (or maybe a water tank bladder when long hauling it).

Two slide outs from the tailgate. Left side slide out - removable kitchenette with leg inserts (use in place in tub or stand in tent awning). Right side slide out drawer - compartmentalised storage.

Hannibal rack for canoe(s) (nearly always with us) Oztent, solar, tube for fishing rods, and extended touring bits (chem toilet etc) (occasionally bikes)

Everything else will just go in storage boxes and bins (maybe an internal roof basket)

Have I missed anything? Its nice to have S P A C E after my old rangie.

    Thanks
    Dale

You'll be limited to a fairly short awning if you mount the ladder on the left side. When I build mine, I'm going to double skin the sides.... sheet on the outside and some kind of alloy mesh on the inside (maybe like security door style stuff). This gives you protection for internal lights mounted to the inside of the door (if you mount it in the "cavity"), gives you somewhere to strap small lightweight items (eg jackets, blankets, towels) and - should something inside come adrift and slide around when you go around a corner - it won't leave a nasty outwards dent in the outer door skin.

I haven't forgotten your measurements, I just haven't had time yet. Hopefully I've kept you busy thinking about all this other stuff I'm throwing at you - haha
