And looks like the 6 speed RWD auto that bolted to the PUMA in the Transit was North American market only as well according to wiki, might be a bit dear to get hold of in oz as never sold here in that config. The 4wd auto 6 speeder versions appear to be transaxle like the 4motion VW transporters and for the European market. The autos previous to latest gen were 5 speed single clutch or 4 speed.

Tombie, it's my daily driver, I do a few Klm so drivability is important that's why I'm set on more power and an auto. These truck just wear you down the way they are set up. I love it when they hit the bush but around town they push your limits.
I suppose if I had a job where I drive to work park it then drive back home park it, it would probably be bearable bug I'm in and out of it all day.

Regular trips to my farm, and occasional towing 2-2.5 tonne.

The doner will be Ford Ranger box.
It will run a separate computer.
Diff ratios etc I'll cross that bridge when I get to it but thanks for the heads up.
So far that's all I know, leaving those details up to Bruce Davis.

Thanks for the answer Babs - your solution is really simple..

Ranger 3.2 and auto into your Defender, then add a remap and you'll fly quite nicely.

The LS will be nice but very expensive and a pita...
The TDCi 3.2 with a tune will be an easy driving, economical, weapon!

Or he could buy a Td5,fit a D2 ZF,VNT/bigger cooler/remap blah blah,air bags all round,red dot A/C,new interior,the works really. Pat

Well don't know about all the D1s; my 97 auto (one of the early autos) supposedly had lower ratio diffs (higher gear) ????
