Space Case VS Roof Rack bag

    Hi Guys,

Well its 4 weeks, till we head off to the Simpson.

Do i go a roof rack bag or 2 Space Cases.

    both about 1.2-1.5l m and 35 high

i like the space case because no zips and straps EVERY DAY FOR FOR OVER 2 WEEKS, all i do is close and latch the lid with the case.
    they weigh 30kg for 2

i have been able to store all my water and diesel inside.

So on the rack i will have a tent 30kg and say 30kg of bedding and bags.

So i feel the weight of the case should not really be take in to it.

So what are your thoughts who have used both.

i have a big space case and love it, its to big for this trip.

I haven't used a space case but I have used a rack bag. I would think that in actual use there would be no contest, the convenience and lockability of a case would win hands-down, then there's the getting yourself and all your clean stuff covered in dust every time you open the bag, the fact that it has to be full to hold it's shape, the fact that the zips let dust and rain in...
A space-case is probably much more expensive plus has to be stored full-size between uses as opposed to a bag folding up small. Only two factors I can think of in favour of the bag.

We used a rhino roof top bag and it was excellent, fully weather and dust proof, however, doing it again would probably go the space case. Outside of the bag gets covered in crud like POD said and also we found the bag rubbed against the rack, not sure how long it would last if on an extended trip.

It sounds like you like the space case you have.
If you have one already why is it not usable?
If I had one already I'd be reluctant to spend money for a one trip use.

I've got a roof top bag that has served us well in the past.
Keeping it a shape to shed water and not pool is an art, both loaded and at camp.
I never had water ingress but did wrap things in rubish bags just incase.
    Cheers, Kyle

We had a bag last year, was great for keeping dust out. Also kept water out whilst driving but was useless when stopped in rain, no matter how we arranged it water would seep through. Had to put everything into plastic boxes with lids to keep them dry in the bag. It was a top end canvas bag, very disappointing.

If the space case is fully waterproof and height is not a concern i would go the cases if we did a big trip again.

We had a bag initially but it had a couple of disadvantages.
When its raining its difficult to load a bag that is packed on to the roof rack, you have to stand on the bumper and load it, whereas the big Pelican case we have now holds all our bedding and can be packed in a tent and then loaded.
The other problem is a user issue, I tied the straps that I had over the bag too tight and chafed the inner liner making the bag no longer waterproof.
