Ive been considering buying a sheet of chequer plate and having it laser cut to the shapes i want for things like bonnet protection.
Are you thinking of doing all the bends and cuts at home?
no help with suppliers sorry

SubscriberOver time I'd like to make some modifications such as deepening the battery box, making my own chequer plate mods, roof rack mods, etc, but I've got no idea where to source metal from. Having worked at Bunnings I would prefer not to use their aluminium for modifying defender panelling, so where do you go to get the basics such as rods, sheet metal, and box sections?
Preferably near the Eastern Suburbs to inner west area.
Cheers

Try Mascot Steel and Tools, near the airport. I've bought sheet steel from them before, seemed OK but i am no expert
- Yellow pages 'steel supplies'
- Local sheet metal works (they can also cut / fold for you)
- Local fabricators / engineering shops
Only issue is you may get minimum lot sizes, especially for special order stock, but shouldn't be too bad.

'El Burro' 2012 Defender 90.
A bit of a drive for you, but they'll make the box or cut it out or just supply the material. your choice.
