Online Service History & Warranties

While I'm on another rant about ..... dealers... new vehicles etc etc, I thought I'd add...

On new Defender TDCi (puma) models I do the following (you know that customer service thing).

*Add grease nipple to clutch pedal and lube.
*Silicone spray coat engine computer, harness, hoses, plastic.
*Spray a small amount of Lanolin spray between the cross member (under the gearbox) mounting plates where it bolts to the chassis (over the years its a big rust spot, look on any old 300tdi Defender).
*Silicone spray dash and related plastics, door lock latch, window slides etc.
*Add (or rather correct) the grease nipples on the front prop shaft.
*check online to see if there is any recalls current for model.
*Recommending a different service schedule based on 10K service intervals that always include air filter/fuel filter.

As always, my opinion is going to be biased and people need to take that into account...

P.S Forget about customer loyalty ....... how about repairer/dealer loyalty.... you know, as in looking after a customer without the need to screw everyone over which seems to be the norm for the motor vehicle industry.

Meaning an independent is able to have his service added to the OSH? or have I just misunderstood what you are refering too?


I agree about the customer loyalty issue. I have a 12 yr old TJ Wrangler with 250,000kms that has had 90% of its services done by the Jeep dealer I bought it from and could only say their customer service has been average. I rarely nit pick about what needs fixing/cost etc as long as I know that job is going to be done properly and drama free, but that hasn't always been my experience with dealers. My customer loyalty is wearing thin and I'm annoyed with myself for sticking with them as long as I have. That's why I'm starting to look at other options for my Jeep & Land Rover.


I might get my Defender's first service done by LR just to see how they perform. And while there ask how much a separate corrosion warranty inspection would cost on its own if I decided to go to an independent in the future but wanted to ensure my corrosion warranty remained valid.

2 Dealers have serviced our vehicles..

800km return takes it to Solitaire Motors Adelaide
2400km return sees it at Melbourne City Land Rover

We have only had exceptional service from both dealers.
