I disagree that every JLR model will have an electric option by 2020, and I also disagree that electric power will be a major, if any, power option, when the "New" Defender is released.
    Simply, only, IMHO, of course!

Hybrid diesel-electric maybe. Ingenium can be both diesel and petrol.

You're in-part correct, because JLR is saying it won't be an option, it will be the only choice by 2020. So the new Defender, which won't be released until 2019/20, is going to be part electric, without question, whether you like it or not

    I like it.

...Infact I could forgive Land Rover for taking so long with new Defender if it's hybrid-electric.

Someone posed the question recently of what happens when you do a deep river crossing in an electric vehicle?

They seem to be running on higher voltages than 12V these days.

I really dont think the dedicated off road set are ready for a hybrid yet, so if the defender takes that path it may more likely be a poser model.

Honestly, it's not a question of whether I like it or not, I suppose really I haven't got any particular feelings either way,....it's more what happens when ya "put the pedal to the metal" that interests me.
So, when you say "JLR say it will be the only choice by 2020", what do you mean by that?

NB:Just noticed an article in this forum RSS referring to this topic, saying electric will be an "option",...but they do not say, it will be the "only choice". In other words, I guess we'll still have the ingenium engines/diesel/petrol or whatever, but if ya want electric it'll be available? I have to admit that I'm very surprised that they're saying hybrid will be an option on all models by 2020.

I thought you said that you didn't believe that JLR would have an electric option by 2020. They (JLR) have just announced that from 2020 all you'll be able to buy from their showrooms is electric or hybrid electric. Google it and you'll find numerous articles with quotes from JLR or follow the link provided earlier.

Nothing to be worried about in my opinion. Electric or hybrid electric will whip a Puma Defender's buttocks with ease and will offer more torque and better driveability both on and off road. Electric won't be an issue off road, it will just improve the experience.

I'm convinced that this move to new tech being forced on the industry is the reason the all-new deefer has been delayed until 2019/20. They've gone back to the powertrain drawing board, just when they thought they had it finished.

I think you may be right. The other possibility is that all the statements may refer only to home market, although I think that is very unlikely - some of their most valued markets are elsewhere.

My dream defender will have a Ingenium T/D under the bonnet powering four traction motors, one in each hub, controlled independently so they work like open diffs on the road and diff locks off.Give the cabin 100mm more shoulder room,100mm more leg room and sell it for 50K and we are done. Pat
