    Replace Puma Bonnet Cable

    Hi everyone;

    ‘My bonnet started popping and on inspection, the 7mm bolt to the cable adjuster on the lock mechanism had sheered its head!!! The cable was frayed as well, so here’s how I replaced it as I couldn’t find any info on the process for Pumas anywhere.

    I needed to remove the whole lock - slam panel as I needed to drill the failed 7mm bolt out of the assembly, so the radiator grill needed to come out as well.

    Remover the art hand wing access panel to access the connector at the two piece cable join.

    Thread the new bonnet end cable through the Rt headlight-wing hole and connect everything back up.

    It wasn’t as fiddley as I was expecting.

    DC-DC charger (needs a decent board to mount on), 2nd 45a/h little battery under the driver's seat, high output compressor to air up tyres with coupler under driver's legs, and used piggy back fuses for ignition on and illumination of compressor switch.

    Had a devil of a job fitting the coupling, fits flush but needs slack to move out when releasing, may be I am missing something?!

    You were lucky.

    The Transfer case in the sons had been out 4 times before the vehicle was sold at around 130,000Km.

    First time was a broken adapter shaft(show stopper out in the middle of no where),second was the clutch slave cylinder leaking,third was oil leaks,4th was when the oil leaks returned and it wouldn't pass a roadworthy.

    He doesn't miss it,thats for sure.

    Depressing is your gearbox blowing up after 120k - $10kish exercise to get an Ashcroft refurb put in.

    Added some sound proofing and refitted the Ridge Rider drawer. Slight difference in noise...may be.

    I think I try adding under the bonnet and then may be side doors and rear doors next.

    Have you done the roof? That makes a big difference.

    Bloody things remind me of old biscuit tins until you stop all those panels resonating.

    TBH was hoping someone wouldn't suggest the roof as I hate taking the liner off and have a CB console up front. Definitely a biscuit tin on wheels.

    Added the dynamat extreme bonnet liner. Very slight improvement.

    Also fitted a matching rear mud LED dual light same as front, pretty cool little 90 all in red light.

    Would have been good to have a 2nd pair of hands to help lift the bonnet!

    I’m replacing my batteries today and have been looking at the superstart HVT units vs yellow tops?

    I can’t stretch the budget to decent lithium and I’ve had yellow tops before and rate them highly but Mrs account manager was a bit shocked at the cost of 2 new batteries (‘One thousand dollars?!!!     I’m keen to save some $ but Superstart really get a lot of bad reviews and I’m not keen to have the bitter taste of poor quality or warranty arguments in future, let alone the acid burns of a shellacking from the accounts dept…..

    So, wondering what your experience is?

    If anyone else has recommendations from experience, I’d appreciate your comments
