Speedo and fuel guage have stopped working.

My speedo and fuel guage have just stopped working. Have I blown a fuse?

    Cheers

    Isn't the speedo mechanical?

I guess the speedo is mechanical in that it has an arm that moves around a dial as opposed to a digital speed readout, if that's what you mean. Although the odometer part of the gauge is definitely digital.

For 2 completely instruments to die at the same time seems odd, which is why I though it must be a fuse. I had a quick look at the manual and fuse 4 seemed the most likely culprit, but when I pulled it out it looked OK.

As you say, for two instruments to fail at the same time suggests there is a common cause. If it is not a fuse, I would suspect an earthing issue in the instrument cluster.

Those fellas have way more mechanical know how than me!

Anyway, I've now discovered, after copping a blast from a car behind me yesterday, that my indicators also don't work. Strangely, if I furn on my hazard lights they DO work. So what is the common link between fuel gauge, speedo and indicator wiring?

Turns out fuse 8 was the culprit. According to the manual this fuse is associated with the hazards and rear wiper/washer, so why it would affect the speedo, fuel gauge and indicators is a bit of a mystery. Anyway, glad it was just a fuse and I didn't have to pull the dash apart looking for a wiring short...

    The important part .......

If it blows again, disconnect (isolate) the speedo transducer (at the TC transducer plug ) - if the replacement fuse then remains intact replace the transducer. The transducers can develop an intermittent short, replacements are readily available and are easily replaced being retained by a single bolt on the rear of the TC .
