    Defender 130 driveline backlash

Hi all, I have recently acquired a 130 300tdi. When purchasing the vehicle I noticed backlash in the drive line. At the time the owner assured me this was normal for a Defender, ignorantly I took his word for it. By the time I had driven it home I felt that there were issues. After replacing badly worn rear axles, flanges and a blown out A frame ball joint. The car was a treat to drive.

I took it away last weekend and did a bit of light 4x4ing. Driving it home I felt that the backlash has increased? I did crunch the transfer box shifting from high to low whilst driving (will never do again).

The backlash is by no means bad now but it is slightly noticable. Is some amount normal? Where should I next look?

My experience is that a little bit is normal . You have addressed the two main culprits , so I would not worry too much , just keep an eye on things as you normally would .
