According to the video one should wrap some insulation tape around the new steel shaft - I did that - but had to remove it again as the gear surrounding shaft wouldn’t fit. Thus now without the tape and no rattles - but vehicle is fairly new. But perhaps worth trying?

Fitted the slick shift to my puma about 8 weeks ago. It reduced lever throw distance by about 50%, removed nearly all the "slop" and improved my shifting pleasure a lot more than expected. Great bit of kit and an easy fitment. I taped up the stick like THIS and added a lot of grease to the assembly (to the point of having trouble tapping the cover down), also glued the weights pretty liberally - I'm a do things once kind of guy...
However, you don't get something for nothing. The same "work" needs to be done to shift and by decreasing distance, and the mechanical advantage, more effort is req'd. My bride now has to use a bit of body weight to pick up reverse. That said I only have 20K on the clock so everything is still fairly tight.
Anyone in WA is more than welcome to come and give it a go if they are thinking about it as its not a cheap mod.
I did put tape on the stick as per the instruction video, but could not get the cover back on with tape on. Even when I pulled the tape off and greased the stick, it was a bloody big effort to get the cover back on.
We run a few Defenders and the slickshift is almost mandatory for us. It is a well engineered piece of gear, provides accuracy to the gear shifts and almost eliminates wear.Quote:

Have had a slick shift in our 110 for around four months. Love the short, direct and very precise shifting action, however my partner hates it finding it 'clunky' and difficult to push into reverse. She much prefers our stock 90 which has a very easy (but large) shifting action. The 110 has a very bad rattle emanating from the gear stick in 4th and 6th. Have duct tape wrapped around the slick shift's metal shaft and have glued the metal weights in the gear handle - rattle remains. It was very hard to get the gear stick outer back on the slick shift shaft with the duct tape in place and I had to re-wrap it a few times to get the amount of duct tape right. Very slight pressure on the gear stick immediately stops the rattle, so am currently doing a lot of driving with the left hand resting on the gear stick [bigsad] . When time permits I will look at packing the slick shift out with grease to see if this helps. Love the product but the rattle is VERY annoying.
Sounds like your problem could be the two slick shift metal rod rattling against each otherm check if the screw is looseQuote:

Mine (puma 2.2) now rotates freely and makes it difficult to change gears, and 2 hands for reverse.
Had it in for about 10,000km no problem and then this at the start of a 3000km+ trip.
Pulled it out by the side of the road to check it wasn’t anything serious and it looks like the pins on the selector ball are a bit too short to engage the selector cup support yoke.
Makes me think it’s been borderline since I put it in, or am I missing something here?

My one did that but it was just the grub screw coming loose that holds the two pieces together.
Hope it is nothing more painful.
