    Td5 cranks sensor/other questions

    Evening everyone,

    Just had a few quick questions about my Defender- 2000 td5 110 for the veterans on here.

    Its currently in a million pieces in the shed, box and transfer are split, main job is the clutch and flywheel but taking care of a few fiddly bits while its apart, biggest job i've taken on with this thing, with the right advice and support it has really boosted my confidence to do even the bigger jobs myself.

    1- its got an intermittent harsh misfire particularly when under load cold cornering or being knocked around such as when driving bumpy/rutted sand tracks (can feel it right up the gear stick) that used to drop it down into limp mode or cut out the engine all together dropping off cylinders before I got a new ECU (topside switch fail). It still does it but powers through with the new ecu now. i know this could be many things like the TPS or the fuel pump, but I have a spare crank sensor which i'm going to throw in (will keep the origonal as a spare in case it stops us dead in the desert) and have read a fair bit about them needing to be shimmed to relieve some misfire issues. However i've only ever read about this on discos. The origonal isn't shimmed, should I get the shim as well or just bolt the new sensor in?

    2-is it okay to reuse the td5 flywheel bolts?

    3-unfortunately i snapped the little pinch clip that holds the handbrake cable in the drum (the clip you pinch to pull the cable theough and out of the drum). Anyone who has had experience with this am I up for a new cable or will a rugged cable tie hold it at bay?

    Misfire sounds like a harness issue to me. (Considering my limited knowledge of td5)

    Hey sorry I should have mentioned the misfire has been addressed in a previous post, it had some pretty extensive work when the head cracked on the fuel rail the harness is ruled out as will most of the common, easy diagnoses/fixes unfortunately. Cheers!
