    Automatic Conversion for 3.5 V8 110

    Hi team,

I'm toying with the idea of converting a County 110 (3.5 V8) to automatic. Currently has a 5 speed box

Can you please let me know what additional I'll need other than the auto box. My understanding (from a previous thread is)... I can use the 4 speed auto from a V8 Discovery 1 or Range Rover 1986.

What additional needs to be sorted?

    thanks in advance

I had a Rangie with the LT77 converted to Auto.
You will need a transmission cooler & pipes. Mods to console & different flywheel.
Not sure about a ECU for the auto, others will chip in.
I highly recommend Ashcrofts, some interesting data here.

I just took delivery of a transfer box. Ordered Tuesday, arrived this morning - Friday. Cost 85 quid freight.

thanks Deejay - I've used ashcroft for a few other things (including a Tcase rebuild kit)... but my understanding is the auto swap for the 3.5 is fairly simple (almost a straight trans swap) but am looking for someone with actual experience doing it.

The Ashcroft kits are great for electrical deefers (Td5 and Puma) w/ compushift, etc. But I'm hoping for a simpler fix w/ the V8.

Anyone on here completed a 3.5 V8 gearbox swap to auto?

    cheers

Hi Bill i have 2 complete kits here including transmissions. The only big problem you will encounter with an su carburetor fed engine is manufacturing the kick down cable linkages to give the correct ratio of throttle position to cable position. This is critical to the survival of the transmission.

Sorry Bill i still didn't answer your question. ..

    The list should include;
Crankshaft spigot adapter and flexplate. ( note: these must be the ones that came from the donor auto vehicle as some different years the torque converter front pump drive tags depths changed)
Shifter and cable and supporting bracketry at the lh trans mount
    Hi low shifter bracket
Oil cooler and lines ( these will need to be modified in shape and length at the front of the vehicle)
Tailshaft at rear is same length however if the autobox came from a viscous coupling transfers case it will be no use. Your original front one should be fine.
As stated correct operation of the kickdown cable is critical.
To be able to get to the trans sump for servicing in future i would recommend swapping in a later rrc round crossmember however this will require exhaust mods ( for the better).
Dipstick tube etc. The rr or disco v8 ones fit fine.
