    Post Developing a noise

    Hi guys
I have a 95 tdi 300 110 It has developed a new whine this week. I am getting a whining noise from the gearbox area (I think) when the engine is not under load. Re when I'm going into a round about or downhill in gear. Once I depress the clutch noise goes away. When it's under load no noise. Gear box and diffs are full and changed regularly. Anyone experience this problem?

I had a similar noise which ended up being a collapsing transfer gear bearing. the noise was the gears starting to run out of mesh.
New bearing in and it still whines on over-run due to the out of mesh wear.

Same as you, only had noise in gear and disappeared with the clutch depressed.
