Thread: Fitting Exmoor Trim Matting System to Defender (Puma)

I think this is the Wright Off Road product now sold by exmor trim.

Removing the handbrake lever was just to enable the fairly inflexible matting to get past it. On the older 110 there was two bolts holding the handbrake in place and captive nuts on the seat box. I don't remember a special procedure about under the dash other than removing the fuse box cover, again to help squeeze in the fairly inflexible matting. It is a good product.

Do you mind if I ask the cost of this item sent to Australia?

I ordered some insulation which arrived today. Had a bit of a look to see what the job entails. Gotta say, I can't see how the matting against the firewall can be removed in one piece without removing the dash. I'd be interested to get some input from someone who's done it. Sorry,not much help.

I think there is a video on YouTube about installing it. I just vaguely remember seeing a video somewhere

I had a look at the video, but was of a Series 3 which is completely different to the later Puma models in regard to the handbrake and tunnel box section.

I installed the matting in my 2015 defender about a month ago. Brought the matting back as my check in luggage while on a work trip to UK. Its big and heavy so a huge saving on shipping.

Anyway, i really struggled to work out how to fit it around the dash centre. You do need to take the handbrake off to install it over the seat box and then leave it off for the floor and transmission tunnel part.

Thats where it gets tricky. I ended up having to cut the matting on the drivers side. I imagined that maybe the military spec vehicles dont have the centre part of the dash configured the same...? But there was no way i could see that the matting would fit. Theres a metal support right where it shouldn't be for the matting to fit. Passenger side was ok thought, after a bit of fiddling. I almost don't want to know if you find an easy way without cutting some of the matt off..

But what a difference. Its a really great product. At idle i basically cant hear the engine (i put dynamat down as well). The heater/fan on setting "1" now sounds noticibley loud.

I managed to work out how to remove the hand brake - wasn't that difficult in the end. Just a bit of gentle force to push the grommets through the holes.

Now stuck on how to get the matting section just in front of the gear levers to push down and sit right. I will try some more brute force, but I think I may need to do some more trimming. Any hints?

Dave - I cut the piece that goes under the dash down the centre(there was a line marked) so that I could fit around the solid section.

Did you have to cut the original mat to remove it.
