Engine blankets - do they raise engine temps?

I have seen a few members have purchased engine blankets to quieten their Defenders like this - Vehicle acoustic engine blankets - NK Group

Sounds like a good idea (excuse the pun) but do they make a difference to engine temps in our Australian heat?

Failing advice from anyone with actual experience coming forward...I wouldn't use them in anything above about 20 degrees celcius ambient temps.

Airlfow for cooling is already enough of a problem in the Defender engine bay.

Lining the bonnet could be a better solution. Thats what im thinking of doing anyway.

I have one on mine, fitted it maybe 5 years ago.
I also have a tm4 fitted to monitor engine and transmission temps.

The blanket just drapes over the factory acoustic cover and no noticeable increase in running temps.
We also tow a KK camper.

Bang for buck without doubt the single biggest improvement in noise reduction and I have lined the cabin as well.

    Cheers,
