Question Defender 110 Dash Centre Console Build.... hopefully

Well, I've wanted to build some sort of Dash Centre Console where I can install my Stereo; 12v power/USB points and gauges/switches. So, today I tried making up some templates for the console side panels, trying to work out how far I can come out w/o interfering with the gearlever movement and access to the front vent levers + I still want to be able to get enough air in through the front vents. The width from what I've sort of worked out is around 300>330mm wide and this seems to be a good width. I've attached a couple photos of what I've done but would like to see other people's photos of what they have done.....

This is a pic of mine. It's about 270mm wide. I agree with weeds your fingers might get crunched when hitting 1st etc.

I made it in steel then covered it in neoprene.

It might look like the gear lever will hit but it shouldn't if I build it the way I'm thinking. Once I work out the front plate and make some adjustments I'll know for sure. I'm hoping to have a air gap to still allow for air flow from the vents behind. Bit hard to explain in words, so I'll see how it turns out once I finish it

To select 1st and 3rd your gear lever goes way past its resting position.

You could drill some holes and vent through the side.

My first attempt protruded from the dash about 20mm from memory. That was too much. But 4 speed gear stick travel could be different. Mine is 3 pieces. The sides have tabs folded 90* to attach the facia plate which is bent to fit the sides profile. You can see from the photo where the screws fix the front to the sides.

Here are some pics of my proto type....I'm fitting a double din which cannot sit vertical as in a defender the screen is difficult to see.

    Gear stick in neutral

Vent clearance although the raptor is wider

    1st gear

Interesting - I have the MUD console mounts in place but I screwed up when I did the cut outs on the console itself so may have to make up a metal one after all.....
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I'd suggest adding some form of glareshield over the top. My EGT gauge is in the top angled part of a mud pod, and with the near vertical windscreen often copped direct sun on it making it impossible to read. Fixed with a small metal shield - and it doesn't need to be huge to make a big difference.

    1st gear

Yeah, that looks like the same distance out from the dash as mine
