Besides the oil in the loom the only other major things I've had to do where replace a power steering box with a new one from the uk (as a reco here cost $600!and a new one was 650 including freight ) and the fuel pressure block was weeping from between block and firewall so got a new one from all4x4 Newcastle. Rest of time it has been normal servicing with an exhaust gasket and fan belt last year.
Personally I think the 02 model was the best of the td5's as it has a flashable ecu and the Salisbury rear axle which is stronger than the Rover p38 rear.

Just as a matter of interest, wonder if you could ask the dealer how much roughly it went for and let us know?

Called the dealer this morning and he said they got full price for it, no inspection, someone just did a bank transfer from Nth QLD.

I've only really got into off-roading the last year or two but I love it.....I doubt I will be climbing any crazy hills but I'm keen to push a bit harder on some inland tracks, and ive had my eye on Carnarvon gorge for a while. But, the majority of my time will be beach driving like Moreton/Straddie/Fraser/DIP etc. I guess I don't 'need' many mods but they look the been knees the more they have :)

Interesting thread this as I'll be putting mine up for sale in about 3 weeks. Not much in the way of a written service history as I do all oil/filter changes myself.
No way will I pay someone 600 odd bucks (if not more) to do simple jobs like that or renew brake pads etc.
But all stuff requiring some mechanical expertise like new output shaft then I get an expert to do it and willingly pay his price.
What value do you put on ALL oils/filters being changed at half the intervals LR recommend?
Do you worry that a vehicle has done a few more than "average" kays? I've just bought a D4 and the stealer would have loved to get his hands on the 110 at Red book prices then stuffed a few thousand on top for his mark up. :D
Of course the normal performance would have been gone through.... the pursing of the lips, the head shaking, the negative comments etc. before the insult of a book price.
I've see it too many times to bother with them now when buying/selling.

I guess it depends how much you know about cars and if you work on them yourself. I know services are expensive-ish when they only seem to be an oil change but someone like myself who is far from a car expert I rely on the mechanic to keep me informed of problems developing or upcoming parts changing etc.

Obviously doing your oil/filters etc more frequently is great for the car but as a potential buyer not having any record of this isn't great. But, you have SOME history and every little helps. I would say keep all your receipts for the work you do and keep a log of it because that would go a long way if the mechanic ones are missing.

Regarding high K's, the idea for me now is to buy a car that will give me a good 10-15 years so the lower the better given im planning on keeping it for a long time......but if I only planned on keeping the car for 3-4yrs then high K's would bother me much less. But again, after 250k's I'd want to find one with a good record of maintenance and repair receipts etc

Also look at what you can insure it for. You will find you will be lucky to insure it for $15k even loaded with accessories. I have a 2000 model so little difference between the 2 and can only get it insured for around $14 at absolute best with around $10k worth of accessories.

I've had mine insured with Club 4x4 for nearly a year. It's insured for replacement value and extra cover on accessories. And the premiums are fair I think compared to the market. when I rang you speak to a real live person who seem to know his 4x4s and the product. Also, I am covered anywhere in Australia.
However, I haven't had to make a claim yet (touch wood) so I guess time will tell.

Mines a 2002 and insured agreed for about 27k, but with values rising I might ask to raise that to 30 , I'm with shannons and they have been good with reasonable premiums.

So, this Dealer says some-one bought this vehicle, with no service history, no history in fact of any kind, so the buyer only knows what the dealer tells him over the phone, and lets go of his hard earned, with the vehicle being sight unseen, by anyone? I would NEVER do that.

Yeah I have found that my normal insurance company Bingle (who are very good by the way!) only cover to a certain value.....but looking at Club 4x4 its a little more $$ but you get a lot more included even on top of the agreed value and accessories.....like actual off road coverage for one!
