    7 seat Puma

    Hi,
New to forum and this is my first post. Looking at buying a Puma defender 5 seat and converting it to 7 seat, have searched forums a bit and found small bits of info but nothing really from anyone who has done it. Plan is to use fwd facing rear seats from 7 seater(few on gumtree), and associated brackets etc. Without seeing a 7 seat in he flesh I'm only guessing roughly what I need. From what I can work out I will need seats, swing brackets seat to tub, seat belts, support bracket from rear crossmember to seatbelt mount and another bracket where seatbelt goes through at top of rear of car. Is there anything else I'm missing or if anyone has some advice on completing this would be greatly appreciated. In particular is there another bracket in tub wings where seat bracket bolts through. I need to try and decide if this is a financially viable conversion or if I'm better off just waiting for a 7seater too come up.
    Thanks Stuart

I took the 3rd row out of my Puma over 4 years ago and don't remember much about the fittings except they were different from previous Deafeners because they'd changed the profile of the wheel boxes for some reason. Probably cost knowing what else Ford did to save a few dollars per vehicle.....
Flogged them off for a 100 bucks to somebody with an ageing 300Tdi as no way did I want my rellies kids in the vehicle.
I do remember some dickhead in Melbourne telling (!!!) me to send them to him (at my cost) and he would evaluate them and decide whether they were worth a 100 bucks or not!
I thought plonkers like him only drove Asian vehicles.....

Wouldn't you have to get the increased seating capacity 'signed off' for registration ? If so what will that cost ?
Might be better to wait for a 7-seater to come up.

My Defender was secondhand but I got the dealer to install some rear (inward facing) seats that they had available. Rego papers from VicRoads turned up and only listed 5 seats. Bailed up the dealer and he claimed VicRoads must have lost the paperwork........ anyway, engineers certificate sorted (at no cost to me) and now registered as a 9-seater.

Using standard Land Rover parts should make it easier but the seating capacity normally needs to be changed on the registration paperwork.

Thanks for reply's, yeah needs to be signed off and mod plated. Have chatted to vehicle engineer here in Cairns and he has quoted me $350 for inspection and mod plate. He said if all original LandRover parts are used it is very straightforward and he wouldn't have a drama with it. I just need to work out what parts are already fitted and not utilised ie brackets etc.
    Thanks Stuart
