    Cigar lighter issues

    Hi All,

More from the new (2012) 110.

The cigar lighter was not working so I checked the fuses and found that the 20A fuse in the secondary box had blown. Easily replaced.

I now turned the ignition on and found out why the fuse had blown - the burning smell when I put even a small load on it was a dead giveaway! Clearly a short in there somewhere.

Here's the question. Is there a common location for the cigar lighter supply to rub and short out after a lot of shaking around? Whilst a relatively low milage vehicle I understand from the previous owner that quite a bit of this was on dirt tracks.

Unless there is a clear likely location I have the option of going straight to the auto electrician ($$$) or blanking the socket off (annoying). Whilst a fairly proficient DIY type myself, I shy away from electrics.

    Cheers,

    BrookyLR

    Hi,
Wire in a 12V globe across the empty fuse socket. Then go looking for the chafe point. The globe will light up when you create the short that is giving you grief.
    Cheers
