						SupporterHi all
I have been thinking for sometime about upgrading the inadequate horns in my Defenders with air horns.
Just wondering what brand and configurations others may have considered and where is the best location to mount them?
I was looking at dual trumpet Sundely air horns (150dB ) on ebay. But 150dB is pretty bloody loud and is likely to end in a road rage incident which I would be keen to avoid!
Its not that I use the horn very often but when I do it would be nice if people could actually hear it and take notice rather than point and laugh.
I'd be interested in any experiences good and bad that people have had??
Cheers

Mounted a single long truck horn under the gaurd in my 101 - mostly to make use of the endless air system I installed between pumping up tyres.
Sounds great, is VERY loud - I am careful not to use it too close to people usually, and I also have a switch to switch between the standard electric horn and the air horn. It is very effective on those rare occasions you actually need it.
Not sure how much room there is under the gaurd of a Deefer though or where else you could mount it.
Although I have an air supply on tap, you can buy them with a small compressor as well, like the twin horns your looking at.

I'm going to fit a Steible Nautilus replacement to my 110, that I've had laying around.
A very good quality item, around 105dB, so not stupidly loud.
Cattle will take a bit more notice of me once I fit it.

Get a pair of horns out of a 60-70's vintage Fiat or Alfa. The Italians know how to do it. Marelli brand I think.

The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
I had some 156db horns with a compressor installed in my Mini Moke a few years back, I transferred them from the moke to the Mini and now i think its time to transfer them to the Defender..
They work really well in the M5 Tunnel, You just see brake lights come on every time you use them.
+1 on the Stebel Nautilus.
I've actually got 2 of these at home which will find their way under the front guard some time soon (1 is currently attached to the Z though). Draw around 20A to get the full noise though, so a little thirsty.
Being an electropneumatic horn, they are a bit slower to react when you push the horn button, but all in all, sound goooood

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
