    I recommend to customers..

50,000km - all Defenders, diffs, transfer case, gearbox.

On the Defender TDCi (puma) diffs done at the first 30,000km (the fluid will be loaded with metal), and replace the drain plug with a magnetic one as this idea was dropped on the last of the Defender TD5 models.

    Sort of, sort of not.

I don't have access to topix, but have noted that for the MT82 gearbox fluid capacities in the service manual state a 2.4L initial fill, and and a 2.2L service fill.

The transfer case (which I believe is the capacity you've quoted, as I didn't put any other capacities in that post) is in fact a 2.3L fill. The topic article relates to the MT82 gearbox.

How can one access this 'topix'?

I always have and always will use BOT328. The interval i use down here is 40k for all diffs and transfer case except when working hard then the lt230 puma box gets 20k changes with penrite 75w90 progear. The MT82 i change at 60k and 2.2l. Dazzatd5 will be using his own schedule due to climatic and customer use conditions. In my opinion we as repairers should be tailoring servicing for customers use/ vehicles. Treating the factory schedule as a guide only.

Your quite right, I didn't read the thread/detail thoroughly. . The quantity I refer to is for the MT82 gearbox, not transfer.. See attachments below for MT82 correct fill level. (i'll correct my post above soon.)

Topix is here - Browser not supported

FYI - changed all oils on my MY11 Defender 90 2.4 TDCi last week.

Note - 86000km's (assume an 'easy' life) with no modifications.

    Oils used
    ************************************************** *************************
    - Engine 2.4TDCi - Valvoline Synpower FE Engine Oil - 5W-30

    ************************************************** *************************
    - MT82, LT230Q & Front/Rear Rover Differentials - Penrite Pro Gear Oil - 75W-90

Plus Nulon G70 Gearbox & Differential Treatment (quantity as per packaging for MT82 & LT230Q, leftovers shared between diffs)

    2129-thumb.jpg

Pumped in using one of these - ToolPro Utility Oil Pump

    ************************************************** *************************

Only had the car from 85000km's so not much point comparing before and after.

    Hope that helps someone!
